Many NPC applicants have inquired as to when the new census date in Nigeria will finally be announced. We are here with good news.

Many NPC applicants, both trained and untrained, have inquired as to when the new census date in Nigeria will finally be announced.

It has been a long wait for the new census date in Nigeria to be announced and we are here with good news.

The former president, Muhammadu Buhari, approved the postponement of the 2023 census exercise after it was initially scheduled to be held from May 3 to May 7, 2023.

However, Buhari stated that the current Bola Tinubu-led administration would choose the new census date.

Recall that the last census exercise in Nigeria was held about 17 years ago, and the Federal Executive Council had said that there was a need for up-to-date data to be collected.

Concerning the new census date, the spokesperson of the NPC, Isiaka Yahaya, told Punch Newspapers that they will meet with President Tinubu this week and hopefully fix a new date.

He said: “The [NPC] chairman [Nasir Isa-Kwarra] will be meeting with the President [Tinubu] this week but I cannot give you the exact date. We are working on the presentation to brief President Tinubu on the state of the preparation of the census.”

Yahaya added that the commission is still continuing with its activities, which include online training and sensitization.

So, this is very good news, as the new date for census will be fixed by the Tinubu regime, after meeting with the NPC chairman.
